‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Makes Roaring Start in China

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment production,

got off to an appropriately thundering start on Friday at China's theater box office. By 3 p.m. local time in Beijing,

the movie had made roughly $7 million (RMB 50 million), according to ticketing operator Maoyan.

According to Maoyan's current projection, the monster film might bring in up to $105 million in China.

Even though Godzilla vs. Kong made a whopping $188.7 million in the nation in 2021,

that would still be a huge drop from that amount and arguably the best showing a Hollywood picture has had there in months.

With a little over $45 million, Denis Villeneuve's Dune:

Part Two is presently the highest grossing American film in China for 2024, surpassing the $39.5 million local total of Dune: Part One.
