Why did the NBA fine San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama $25,000?

Victor Wembanyama continues to demonstrate that he is a freak of nature, both in stature and technical talent, but the Frenchman is only human.

Indeed, during the Spurs' most recent game, the 20-year-old phenom lost his cool, and he had to learn the hard way that the NBA is pretty severe on discipline.

Though it's a simple jab, it's difficult not to notice that Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs' star,

has added another first to his outstanding list of accomplishments. But this time, it's not the kind of milestone we think he was looking for.

If you missed the NBA's formal statement on Sunday, the league fined Wemby $25,000 for throwing the basketball into the stands during Friday's game against the New York Knicks.

In the Spurs' 130-126 overtime victory, the No. 1 overall choice in the 2023 NBA Draft gripped the ball with both arms as the clock ran out,

seemingly attempting to keep it away from New York's Jalen Brunson. Immediately following the play,

he hurled the ball into the home fans at Frost Bank Center, resulting in the punishment. This isn't Wembanyama's first fine, but it is by far the most significant.

He had received a $2,000 fine for a technical foul after bouncing the ball over his head in fury earlier this season.
